Working with Abandoned Children (Jan - Mar 2021)
We are working with Rainbow homes, an NGO, to engage abandoned children.
-
Children are taught verses from the Thirukkural with meaning, as part of moral training. Each child is taught each part of a verse, and asked to repeat it, and then they are made to recite the whole verse, and commit it to memory. They are also asked to write the verses on the board, after they have memorised them.
-
They are taught physical exercises to promote physical well being, including simple stretching, hand and leg exercises, and bending forward and backward.
-
They are also engaged in group activities, such as singing and dancing, with some children singing and others dancing - solo singing and dancing is also encouraged.
-
English conversation sessions are conducted, in which each child is asked to speak about themselves briefly in English, and feedback/corrections are given.
-
Snacks are also distributed to the children.
